THE PROJECT

The Youth in Action 1.2 project “Ri.Lab -Project” takes place in the city of Milan and its main theme is the development of good practice in support of environment and income through the creation of workshops. The first aim is to promote spreading useful knowledge and develop practical know how and sustainable activities – including business – against insecurity and crisis.
We have planned three classes of workshops, consisting of some meetings, each to develop different skills.
The first class of workshops aims to teach the basic techniques of tailoring, performing simple repairs and personalized modifications of clothes or creating handmade clothing .
The second class of workshops aims to spread know how in printing images and graphics through screen printing techniques, paying particular attention to the dissemination of positive messages and with the intention to create stencils supporting environment and youth creativity. Third class of workshops aims to share skills and create pieces of furniture with recycled materials, a good practice of reusing in support of environment that allows you also to save income and get original, high-quality manufacture.

At the end of these series of meetings we will hold an exhibition of realized products, self-produced clothing or customized using the techniques of tailoring, clothing with positive messages realized through the techniques of screen printing and original pieces created with materials for reuse.
These classes’ goals is to share practical knowledge and cushion the economic costs of the crisis, spreading small practices that everyone can put in place to save money and produce quality custom product. We also want to teach re-use as a sustainable practice for environment, particularly in a period of severe environmental damage as the current one.
Reusing, creating custom clothing is also a way to spread a way of life beyond mere consume culture, to promote the originality compared to approval, to convey positive messages even through clothing.

All of this can be also a starting point to develop entrepreneurial activities managed by young people to deal with the insecurity of income, by improving their creativity and originality
The project will last 11 months and will be started up by 5 participants, engaging more along the way .
Horizontal teaching sessions of design activities and public sessions will take advantage of informal learning methods, to enhance all participants’ contribution, exploit skills and make all those attending classes active in carrying out the project.
